| about |
Hidden away in the midst of a 100 acres park in the rolling hills of the Perche, Château de la Barre has its own 16th century dry moat, fortifications, pond, chapel and flower gardens. It has been in the family of the Comte de Vanssay for six centuries, and the many reception rooms, as well as the bedrooms (all en-suite and newly redecorated with lush fabrics) are full of period antique furniture and family portraits. Candlelit dinner is served in the Grande Salle à Manger, with it's massive burnished dresser and exquisite china collection, followed by brandy and coffee in the Grand Salon with boiseries and ornate chandeliers or you may prefer to adjourn to the more intimate 'pièce à feu' in front of the huge 14th century fireplace, where a game of billiards can be enjoyed under the watchful eyes of the fox terrier, the Weimaraner and Kakou the Ara parrot. |
