Rick Stein’s Padstow empire now extends to three different places to stay, at varying prices, and three places to eat: his flagship Seafood Restaurant, the Bistro in St Petroc’s Hotel, and the Café in Middle Street. If you are intent on eating at the quayside Seafood Restaurant (superb seafood, straight from the fishing boats, served by friendly staff in a lively dining room) then the bedrooms above make the best choice for a night’s stay. They are spacious and more than comfortable in an understated way, with superb estuary views from Nos 5 and 6. What the place lacks in public rooms, it makes up for in laid-back atmosphere and its prime position on the quay. Less expensive, but no less tasteful, are the rooms in St Petroc’s Hotel just up the hill, a little removed from the bustle of the quayside. This is an attractive white-painted building with views across the older parts of town as well as of the estuary. Some rooms are on the small side.TEL (01841) 532700 FAX (01841) 532942 |
