The somewhat forbidding Gothic frontage belies the colourful interior of this interesting venture on the Somerset/Dorset borders. Jörgen Kunath and Anthony Ma (German and Vietnamese in that order) ran a successful restaurant in West London for 13 years, moving here only two years ago. Thus the Old Vicarage is more a weekend house-party place, particularly for fans who knew the couple in London, than a typical roadside hotel.
Displayed to great effect in the mango-coloured hall, the delightful drawing room and the bedrooms upstairs, Anthony’s skill as a painter/decorator is exemplary. The drawing room is stuffed with an eclectic mix of comfortable sofas, gold-painted Russian icons, polished pewter plates, a Vietnamese coffer and a Broadwood baby grand piano. Large mullioned windows look over the park-like gardens and fields beyond. The bedrooms in the coach house are smaller and less interesting than those in the main house.TEL (01963) 251117 FAX (01963) 251515 |
