Branscombe is a picturesque little Devon village, at the end of a winding lane, surrounded by steep, wooded hillsides and overlooking the sea. The National Trust owns most of the land around, and the South Devon Coastal Path passes through it. In other words, this village is a hive of activity, inspiring visits from walkers in winter and beachcomers in summer, many of whom pitch up at the Masons Arms. Welcoming, yes; popular, certainly. It’s just what a village pub should be, although its success has meant that the owners have expanded to meet the demand. So what was a simple inn converted from four cottages, now has two restaurants (one non-smoking), a large function room, four self-catering units, eight Garden Cottages, and 19 bedrooms in the main building.
