| about |
Once upon a time this was a grand house with huge grounds leading down to the River Avon. It was built for the Duke of Wellington in 1830, some time after flourishing Georgian period for which Bath is famous. Inside, you still find grandeur, from the sweeping staircase to the high ceilings of the spacious rooms. There is a large, comfortable drawing room for guests’ use, as well as a licensed bar. Since taking over Apsley House four years ago, David and Annie Lanz have updated the bedrooms and bathrooms with the help of an interior designer, added a few antique pieces and hung large reproduction oils on the walls.
On the minus side, books from Readers Digest and old back issues of Hello and Country Life in the bedrooms, and constant piped music in the public rooms, marr the overall impression of an otherwise stylish hotel. TEL (01225) 336966 FAX (01225) 425462 |
